Tungareshwar Nature Walk

Venue : Tungareshwar Hills

Date : 28 July 2007

Brief Introductions about Tungareshwar

Tungareshwar is at an altitude of about 2177 feet, one of the highest mountain plateaus in Vasai. It is thickly wooded and offers many opportunities to trekkers, mountaineers and nature lovers. The best time to visit Tungareshwar is during the rains or the winter season.

For most trekkers the starting point is the highway junction, which is about a kilometer from the base. One has to walk along a broken, muddy road with shanties and auto repair shops on either side. The road is filthy, hence an alternative is to organise transportation to the base of Tungareshwar.

At the base there is a forest check post. From this point onward starts the actual trek of Tungareshwar. After about a 3 km hike and walking through two streams, you reach the Lord Shiva temple. For a person with average fitness level, it takes about an hour to reach this point. This place is frequented by pilgrims and at times can be crowded so it is preferable to avoid weekends. For many picnickers this is the destination for enjoyment. A visit to the temple and a swim in the overflowing water pond is all they want out of this outing. We can find peacorks at the top near the sandanand Baba mandir. Enjoy the Nature, different types of flora & fauna during your walk.
